I Can't Tell You That

Real estate agents can be a wealth of knowledge. We are taught from day one of our careers to become a source of information for our clients. We are out in our local neighborhoods every day, learning and trying to become experts in our field. There is such a big learning curve from how to write a contract, to learning neighborhoods and home values, to negotiating deals and being a psychiatrist 😉 – joking of course.

But did you know that it is illegal for me to share certain data with you? Our clients are always curious about neighborhoods and rightfully, have a lot of great questions. “What is the age make-up of this building?” Sorry, I can’t tell you that. “Shawn, I love this neighborhood, how are the schools?” Sorry, I can’t tell you that. “What is the crime like in that area, is it safe?” Again, I’m sorry, but I can’t tell you that information.

What I can tell you is that there are a ton of websites out there where you can do your research on crime statistics, school ratings, and pretty much anything else under the sun. But recently, two large real estate websites have decided to take crime data down from their websites because, one, crime data can be misleading and two, it can lead to discrimination.

Watch the episode of the Shawn and Matt Show below where we discuss this topic, along with iBuyer myths and interesting tips from real estate agents.
